Talisman FC connects player development, opportunity, and guidance under one roof. We help families understand the landscape, identify the right opportunities, and make informed decisions about the next stage of a player’s career.

Development is the foundation of every pathway. Talisman Development focuses on helping players become more complete, confident, and prepared for the next level through purposeful training and individualized attention. Just as important, we help players build the mindset, resilience, accountability, and leadership habits that support growth on and off the field.
Evaluate locally. Discover opportunities internationally. Talisman MX is developing San Jose-based identification opportunities designed to connect qualified U.S. players with experienced evaluators and potential pathways within Mexican football.
Players should not have to travel internationally simply to learn whether a Mexico pathway may be realistic. Talisman MX is developing structured identification opportunities in San Jose, California, allowing qualified U.S.-based players to be evaluated closer to home before a family considers a more significant next step.
Fuerzas Básicas are the youth-development structures connected to professional clubs. Players are evaluated by age group, position, game intelligence, technical ability, physical readiness and projected development—not simply by résumé.
Liga MX is Mexico’s top professional division. Liga de Expansión MX is a professional developmental competition below Liga MX, while Liga Premier sits within the federation structure at another competitive level. The right entry point depends on age, level, citizenship/registration status and the specific club.
An MX ID Camp is an evaluation opportunity — not a guaranteed trial, roster position, contract or placement. When a player is identified as a potential fit for an opportunity in Mexico, Talisman helps the family understand the opportunity, prepare appropriately and navigate the next step.
Mexican citizenship can affect how a player is viewed within a cross-border pathway, but citizenship and player registration are not the same thing. Families may also need to address federation, club and international-registration requirements.
Traveling before the player is ready, treating every “trial” as equal, relying on a highlight reel alone, underestimating documentation, and choosing prestige over fit can all derail a pathway. Preparation and honest evaluation matter.
Players pursuing professional youth opportunities should generally already be performing at a strong competitive level. Athleticism matters, but clubs also evaluate speed of play, technique under pressure, tactical awareness, mentality and whether the player can solve problems in the game.
Understand level, position, strengths, development needs and realistic college ranges.
Build the school list around soccer and academic fit—not soccer alone.
Create a dynamic list based on roster needs, program style, academics and geography.
Use targeted, professional communication, video and event schedules.
Attend camps where the school and soccer level genuinely make sense.
Understand the changing college environment, including eligibility, NIL and how transfer activity affects roster opportunities.

ABOUT CARLOS VILLARREAL III
For Carlos, Talisman FC is personal. As a coach and the father of four competitive athletes, he has spent years navigating the same questions parents face: Is my player ready for the next level? Which club is the right fit? Is this camp worth attending? Should we pursue Mexico? How do we approach college recruiting without chasing every opportunity?
Each of his sons has taken a different path. Those experiences have taught him that there is no single “correct” soccer journey. The best pathway is the one that fits the player’s ability, goals, personality, family and long-term development. Carlos brings a coach’s eye and a parent’s perspective to help families make informed decisions with clarity rather than pressure.

FROM MLS NEXT TO NCAA DIVISION I
Joaquín’s pathway started with Alum Rock FC and included Cal North ODP, ODP West Region Camp, NorCal PDP and MLS NEXT with Bay Area Surf, where he captained the team for three years and helped lead two MLS NEXT playoff appearances. He trained with 510 Project, played with Atlético San Luis in Liga MX Juvenil, and was selected for the MLS NEXT U19 Uncommitted Game at MLS NEXT Fest 2025. His next chapter is at Northeastern University, competing at the NCAA Division I level.

DEVELOPMENT • COMPETITION • COLLEGE PATHWAY
Daniel began at Alum Rock FC before earning a place with Cal North ODP, where he served as captain. His ODP pathway included West Region Friendlies MVP recognition, ODP West Region and an invitation to National ODP, alongside NorCal PDP. He then joined the San Jose Earthquakes Academy, later played ECNL with Los Gatos United, and now competes with Silicon Valley Soccer Academy.

MLS NEXT • EVC SOCCER
Carlos IV started at Alum Rock FC before moving into MLS NEXT with Bay Area Surf and later EVC Soccer. After consultation and personal reflection, he decided that the next chapter of his pathway would focus on education and the interests that matter most to him beyond competitive soccer. He plans to pursue work with children and within his community, earn personal fitness trainer certifications, and continue developing his hands-on interest in working on cars. His journey reflects an important part of the Talisman philosophy: the right pathway is not always about continuing to chase the next soccer level—it is about helping each young person make thoughtful decisions that fit who they are becoming.

THE RIGHT PATH IS THE ONE THAT FITS THE PLAYER
Emiliano started at Alum Rock FC and progressed through Cal North ODP, ODP West Region and NorCal PDP before moving to Bay Area Surf’s pre-MLS NEXT environment. After thoughtful consultation and evaluation, Emiliano chose to dedicate his time to competitive travel baseball with The Titans. His story is an important part of the Talisman philosophy: success is not about forcing a predetermined pathway. It is about helping the athlete understand the options and choose the direction that best fits his interests, development and long-term goals.
